Halloween is fun for all ages–if you’re a kid at heart, start browsing for a Halloween costume for adults!
Deciding what you are going to dress up as is almost as fun as dressing up itself is. There are countless options–the only limit is your own imagination!
Will you be favorite character from a television series, or the movies? You can even relive your younger days, if you want–retro TV and movies have become very popular. You can go classic, as a Star Wars Storm Trooper. Or take advantage of an old idea reborn, and get a costume inspired by the upcoming Alice in Wonderland. In the same vein, superheroes and super villains are very recognizable and fun for a Halloween costume for adults.
Celebrities can be great costume ideas, too. You could go Presidential as Obama, or the First Lady. Vintage pinups are fun for the ladies–either to show off a little glamorous style, or play at being sleazy. Marilyn Monroe alone can inspire a dozen different costume ideas. Singers can make for very distinct costume choices. Michael Jackson will be a top choice this year, and of course, Elvis never goes out of style.
Or maybe try on a different occupation. Doctor and nurses costumes are fun and comfortable. Or you could be a firefighter, a race car driver, or a fetching barmaid. Military costumes, either vintage or contemporary, can make you the life of the party.
You could also go with a traditional, scary Halloween favorite. Vampires are hugely popular this year, for example. Or take the opportunity to howl at the moon, as a werewolf. Monsters, and zombies are always crowd pleasers.
Make-believe has a brighter side, too. Fairy princesses, knights in shining armor–fantasy fun! Be a gorgeous mermaid, or a battle-hardened warrior. You can even find a fierce dragon get-up.
And if you don’t want to be scary, or fantastical, how about funny instead? Silly costumes can be especially fun. Dress up as a giant banana, or as the Cat in the Hat.
Great costumes can result from taking any of the above and adding a twist. Adding sex appeal to a more conventional costume is a way to spice things up. Or do a costume cross-over, and dress as a vampire pirate… Or a zombie Obama.
Another way to add to the fun is accessorize your costume with… Someone else’s! Costumes for couples or groups based on a theme up the ante. Be the damsel in distress to someone else’s dragon, or the white rabbit to someone else’s magician. You could even dress up as a matador... Just find someone willing to be the bull! Famous couples are an obvious choice for real life couples. Think Fred and Wilma, Popeye and Olive Oyl, even Adam and Eve!
Regardless of where you find your inspiration, it’s time to start looking. The earlier you begin the more choices you’ll have, since costumes sell out fast. Planning is at least half the fun, and the better you plan the better your costume will be.
