Trained under the tutelage of a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master, these Padawans have to pass trials to become a full Jedi Knight. They are around the age of 13. The trials that Padawans have to undergo are not fully explained by George Lucas in any of the films. However, standard trials exist to prove the Jedi’s abilities. These abilities include the ability to remain calm and focused. Padawans must also be skilled with a light saber.
Padawans wore a hair braid on the right side of their head. Upon attaining knighthood, the hair braid is removed with a lightsaber, which they must also build.
Jedi Knights
These are disciplined, experienced Jedi who have successfully completed the trials of skills, knowledge and dedication. Jedi Knight must also choose a youngling as a Padawan learner.
Jedi Masters
To become Jedi Masters, Jedi Knights must be able to successfully train a Padawan learner to Knight status.
Jedi Council Members
These are the peacekeepers that help to advise the Republic. Jedi Council Members are exemplary Jedi Masters. When a Jedi Council Member vacates his or her seat, the council looks for another exemplary Jedi Master to fill the empty position.
Jedi High General/General
Jedi High General (or General) is the rank given to its members to lead military forces in times of need.
Jedi Grand Master (Formally “Grand Master of the Jedi Order”)
This refers to the rank given to the highest-ranking Jedi Master.
